Unprotected Children is a fact based, true crime documentary television series. It will shed a much needed light on the dysfunctional and corrupt Family Court. This US court system that has not only shown its stunning ineptitude, but has also proven to be more invested in profiting from ongoing legal fees than the welfare of families trapped in its system. In a recent two-year period, the Stop Abuse Campaign found news stories about 175 children murdered by abusive parents involved in contested custody cases. One case can cost on average $100,000 and last about eight years. Family Law Court is a $50 billion dollar industry that often favors the wealthy parent with a desire to work the system. As one divorced parent put it: “I really believe that the judicial system has taken a concept designed to protect children and turned it into its own internal cottage industry.” After intense legal fees, long years and a relentless spirit, some of these parents are able to save their children. Unfortunately, many children are forever scarred by the system.
Each episode of Unprotected Children will feature the characters of the parents, the judge and the child at the center of the struggle. The beginning of every story arc will unveil the history between the couple, chronicling the dramatic ups and downs before the events take a turn for the worse. The last act will end with the judge’s decision and its devastating effects on the children’s welfare. In each episode of Unprotected Children, audiences are granted a personal look inside the lives of parents all across the US who have faced outlandish court-rulings, oftentimes leaving children in the hands of dangerous parents.
